We explain what the keyswitch does on an Allen Bradley PLC and more importantly, how you can accidentally break you machine with it. The key switch has three positions. RUN, REMOTE, and PROGRAM but the REMOTE position of the key switch has two modes, REMOTE RUN and REMOTE PROGRAM making a total of four modes. This is true for Allen Bradley PLCs that have traditional key switches with a removable key and for those that have a toggle switch or selector switch such as a Compactlogix PLC.
