Six Second Rule: This method can be used with an irregular rhythm to estimate the heart rate. Simply count the number of R waves (QRS Complexes) within six seconds and multiply by 10.
Example: If there are 8 R waves (8 QRS Complexes) in a 6 second strip, the heart rate is 80 beats per minute. 8 X 10 = 80 bpm.
