Did you know that your competitors can make edits to your GMB listing?
It is true. Your competitors, or anyone else for that matter, can suggest edits to google about your listing. It’s called the Suggest an Edit Feature. And that is the subject of this video.
What is Suggest an Edit and how does it work?
The Suggest and Edit feature is a link that is automatically displayed on your Google My Business listing. All someone has to do is click on it and select the information they want to try and change about your listing.
The edits are sent to Google for review in which case Google will email the owner of the listing asking them to review the edits and Google will also display an alert banner in the Google My Business dashboard.
The point is that anyone can attempt to edit your Google My Business listing. You want to make sure that when you setup your Google My Business listing that you fill out the listing in its entirety, meaning you don’t leave anything blank, so that Google will be less likely to fill in the gaps with information generated from users.
What happens after someone makes an edit?
If Google thinks that the edits are credible, they will send you, or whoever the owner of the listing is, an email notification that your business profile has been recently updated and to go inspect the changes.
Google will also display an alert banner at the top of your screen when you log in to your Google My Business dashboard.
You should pay attention to your listing details and guard yourself against unwanted changes from happening to the information that you display about your business on the web.
Is Google Suggest an Edit Anonymous?
Yes. The owner of the listing has no way of knowing who the users are that made the edits to the listing, where they are located or anything else about them.
