A UNION GENERAL WAS KILLED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS BATTLE!
Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon was killed at the Battle of Wilson's Creek on August 10th, 1861, while trying to rally his outnumbered soldiers. He was the first General for the Union to be killed in the war.
