And when the tanks again moved parallel to the forest, I crawled toward them with a group of four soldiers, carrying bundles of grenades. We jumped out in front of the tanks. A young machine gunner, Sasha Gurov, and I managed to blow up a tank, and the squadron commanders, Lieutenant Tkachuk and former Black Sea sailor Leonov, were mowed down by machine gun fire before they could even throw their grenades.
