Blaming C or C++ for Microsoft Crowdstrike Outage ? Here is why you shouldn't
Post the IT outage happened because of thr ceowdstrike update happened on microsft windos system, people are flooding the social media with the statment that it is happening because of the memory unsafe programming languages like C and C++.
Its true that even today kernel level codes are written predominantly in C language and its likeliy that the bug was there because of the null pointer exception as reported on the internet. Now at the time of recording this video, there wasn't any official confirmation on the same but even if we consider that this was the cause, I don't think that this was the root cause of the bug.
This cause could have been prevented by writing a small unit test cases which means the quality of the code was compromised by the programmers and its the programmers written that code was responsible in my opnion.
Its not that memory safe languages like rust go c# java python etc are not useful, they are, but given in the hands of dumb programmers, a problem will happen at some or other places.
We need to make sure that programmers are responsible and they are not banking on others to find the root cause.
