Hi everyone!
Do you want to get more range from your e-bike? Do you want to cover more miles and climb steeper hills? Do you want to extend the life of your expensive e-bike battery without having to spend a fortune on a replacement battery? Great! In this video, I'll show you how to build a battery extender for your e-bike!
This isn't a complex task, but it's extremely important to be extremely careful, as lithium batteries are highly dangerous and can catch fire or even explode.
SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL! IF YOU'RE UNSURE YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT, DON'T ATTEMPT IT AND LET SOMEONE WITH SPECIAL EXPERTISE IN THIS FIELD WORK. (I can do it for you...)
That said, building a DIY Battery Extender isn't too complicated, but it does require the right materials, including a battery pack with a BMS, appropriate cables, a fuse, a switch, connectors, diodes, heat-shrink tubing, self-amalgamating tape, and a soldering iron. Some skill is also required.
This Battery Extender can be installed on e-bikes with Shimano and Yamaha systems, and presumably on other brands as well, although I'm not entirely sure.
I'll share the results of a test I did soon in the description:
First test: same route with only the fully charged e-bike battery, followed by a check of the remaining charge.
Second test: same route with the newly built Battery Extender added, combined with the original battery, both fully charged, followed by a check of the remaining charge.
It's likely that at the end of the second test there will be much more charge left!
