Discovision logo [Domesday Duplicator Capture]
The disc is of Saturday Night Fever (1977), 1979 DiscoVision release. Dead side contains At Home with Donald Duck.
I used test mode and some trickplay button fiddling to get it to play before frame 0. Frame 0 appears at 0:32, and that's where the disc starts on any non-ancient LaserDisc player.
Because no footage here exceeds 24fps, I have applied an Inverse Telecine (IVTC) filter to restore the original 24fps progressive video. In my case, it leaves a few combing artifacts, even on motionless vertical lines like at 0:31.
Pipeline:
● Capture from RF using a Domesday Duplicator (Windows 10, desktop)
● Covert capture to a .tbc file with ld-decode (Ubuntu 22.04 LTS)
● Convert .tbc file to playable video with ld-chroma-decode (part of ld-decode), saving with ffmpeg (command line) to Apple ProRes 4:4:4:4 format, 760x488 resolution (also in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS)
● Manually apply IVTC filter in VirtualDub2 and save to RGB uncompressed files (Windows 10, laptop)
● Upscale 8× using nnedi3_rpow2 in AVISynth+, then downscale to 3840x2880 and save with Virtualdub2 to ProRes (High Quality 4)
● Assemble in DaVinci Resolve, add chapter markers and export to GoPro Cineform format, "Best" quality.
