You can free up storage space on your Motorola Android phone by combining a few different strategies, including using the built-in storage tools, managing your apps, and dealing with media and downloads.

Here is a comprehensive guide:

1. Use Files by Google (Recommended for easy cleanup)
The Files by Google app (pre-installed on many Motorola phones) has a dedicated "Clean" feature that makes freeing up space very easy.

Open the Files App: Look for the Files app (sometimes called "Files by Google").

Tap the Clean Tab: At the bottom, tap the Clean tab.

Review and Clear Suggestions: The app will give you cards with suggestions like:

Junk Files: Tap Clean and then Clear to safely remove temporary app files and residual files.

Delete large files, duplicate files, downloaded files, screenshots, and unused apps. Review these suggestions and choose what you want to delete.

Empty the Trash: In the Files app, you may also need to check the Trash or Bin to permanently delete files you've moved there from your phone's storage.

2. Manage Your Photos and Videos
Media files are often the biggest storage hog.

Back Up to Google Photos and Delete Local Copies:
Open the Google Photos app.
Check that your photos and videos are backed up.
Tap your Profile Picture in the top right.

Select Free up space (or a similar option). This will remove the local copies of photos and videos that have already been securely backed up to the cloud. You can still view them in the Google Photos app when connected to the internet.

Clear the DCIM Thumbnails/Trash: Over time, your phone creates a hidden folder of small image previews (thumbnails) that can add up. You can use a file manager (like Files by Google) to go to Internal Storage. DCIM and delete any files named .trashed or the entire .thumbnails folder.

3. Clear App Cache and Data
Clearing the temporary files (cache) for apps can free up significant space without losing your personal data.

Go to Settings.

Tap Apps or Apps & notifications (or System then Apps).
Tap See all apps (if applicable).
Select a large app (like a social media app, browser, or game).
Tap Storage & cache.

First, tap Clear cache. This is generally safe and will only delete temporary files.

If you still need more space and are sure you want to completely reset the app: Tap Clear storage (or Clear data). Warning: This will delete all of your personal data for that specific app (login info, saved games, chat history in some cases, etc.).
