Who are the Bidun?
The Bidun are those who did not get the citizenship for various reasons, after the issuance of The Nationality Law the year 1959, despite their living in Kuwait for many decades that exceeded the forth generation.
They were actually encouraged by the Kuwaiti government to remain in their current position, to the extent that they were registered in the general census as Kuwaitis, until the eighties of last century. The government granted them privileges better than the non-Kuwaiti residents, reaching a percentage more than 80% in security bodies. Not only were their children admitted to schools and the university, but they were even granted governmental scholarships to study abroad. They were also hired in official organizations just as Kuwaitis were.
Yet this exceptional state has turned overnight into a tragic suffering, in 1986, when the official organizations started cornering them. The cruelty of such limitations has gradually increased reaching the tragic state were living today.
