This animation illustrates the "zero-sequence" that is added to the sinusoidal component in the modulation function as the PWM varies between the DPWM-Max (only 111 used as zero state) and the DPWM-Min (only 000 used as zero state) while maintaining the modulation index constant. There is no surprise with the FFT showing constant fundamental component. But it is interesting to observe that the 3rd harmonic stays constant as well although the shape of the zero sequence varies quite a bit!
It is worth noting that the 3rd harmonic and its multiples in the voltage spectrum will typically not have impact on the load current in a three-phase three-wire system since the they are identical for the three phases. Sometimes it is also called common-mode voltage.
