"T-Shaped Letter" is a tessellated puzzle consisting of four polygonal shapes that can be used to form the capital letter T. These four shapes typically include one isosceles right triangle, two right trapezoids, and an irregular pentagon. Despite the deceptive simplicity of the puzzle, it is surprisingly challenging, the main problem being how to arrange the irregular pentagon.
The earliest appearances of the puzzle date back to the early 20th century, when it was distributed free as a promotional gift. Commercial wooden versions of the puzzle have been produced since 1920. Currently, most "T-Shaped" puzzles are distributed with a brochure that suggests solving some additional shapes. Which shapes can be solved depends on the relative sizes of the individual pieces.
