Where and when will the 2023 Asian Cup finals take place?
The Asian Cup is the most senior football tournament on the continent, organized by the Asian Football Confederation every four years. Before 2019, the Asian Cup consisted of only 16 participating teams, but since the 2019 Asian Cup held in the UAE, the organizers decided to increase the number of teams from 16 to 24 to create opportunities for different teams in Europe. Asia has the opportunity to participate in the biggest sports festival on the continent. The 2023 Asian Cup is the second time this tournament has the 24 strongest Asian teams participating in the competition.
According to the original plan, the 2023 Asian Cup will be held in China. However, on May 14, 2022, the Chinese Football Federation officially confirmed to the Asian Football Confederation that they are not eligible to organize because of the outbreak of covid 1 and very complicated developments in Vietnam. This country, plus the dynamic zero covid policy is being thoroughly applied, so the AFC will meet to choose the host country for the tournament.
After the AFC sent an invitation to the member federations to participate in the bidding to host the 2023 Asian Cup finals and review many potential countries such as Australia, Korea, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, it was not appropriate because many countries were busy. with international tournaments and many other reasons not being able to host. And finally, it's lucky for AFC when Japan, after much deliberation, has voiced its desire to host the 2023 Asian Cup finals instead of China. Japan Football Federation (JFA) President Kozo Tashima told Nikkan Sports that the JFA is considering for Japan to host the 2023 Asian Cup.
Thus, if all goes well, the 2023 Asian Cup Finals will be held in Japan, the land of cherry blossoms and from June 16 to July 16, 2023. Before that, the final round of the Asian Cup 2019 was held in the UAE, Qatar was the defending champion after defeating Japan with a score of 3–1 in the final.
