Self-Birth is a collaborative project by Dipetsa and Xtos–a hybrid between music video and fashion film, made on the occasion of London Fashion Week's S/S 2021 collections.
Filmed on location in Greece, the film turns its focus on maternal water, the process of finding intimacy and love from within, and overcoming world wounds. It is also a new take on the ‘Wetness’ performance, but seen through the lens of today’s social distancing climate–it thus becomes an exercise on intimacy and connection in the absence of touch. Water is examined as a vital force of life and rebirth that allows for introspection, and ultimately, self-reconnaissance. Regeneration in springtime. The music evokes the syncopated pace of Greek folk music, the remnants of the music of antiquity, chamber choirs, and the feeling of being submerged in skin-temperature water.
The rhythm is eternal, only the seasons change. The film and song collide in an ecstatic climax. A ritual that is repeated until ecstasy.
