St. Louis Historic Flooding 4 p.m. show July 27th, 2022
Yesterday was all hands on deck. The St. Louis Metro area received a record-breaking amount of rain–more than a foot in some places! Flooding impacted thousands of people.
It was such a great learning experience, I am so proud of the team I got to work with to tell these important stories.
My mentor, Sheila Rice, and I produced the 4 p.m. show yesterday– a show that I had never worked on before. We had a field anchor, field meteorologist, and three live reporters to juggle. Then two minutes before the show, our server crashed and we were unable to roll any video… at all. Sheila quickly informed the reporters and anchors of the new problem and told them they’d have to tell their stories without video– a near impossible feat for the most visual show I have ever produced.
The show started and we were unable to roll our first video– a pre-produced package open. Once we got past that, all of our videos came back and the show went on as usual. Despite technical difficulties off the top, I am so proud of what we put on air. It was such a great learning experience. I will never forget being able to tell the stories of such a historical event.
