Stop adjusting columns and rows manually. If you’re still dragging column widths and fixing row heights one by one, you’re wasting time every single day in Excel. Let me show you three faster and smarter way that professionals use to clean up their data in seconds.
First, click anywhere inside your table. Now we’re going to use a shortcut, so stay with me. Press Control plus A one time. This selects your data. Press Control plus A again, and now the entire sheet is selected. Good.
Now press Alt, then H, then O, then I. Do it step by step. Alt… H… O… I. What this does is AutoFit column width. Instantly, all your columns adjust perfectly based on the content. No dragging, no guessing.
Now let’s fix the rows as well.
With the sheet still selected, press Alt, then H, then O, then A. Again, slowly… Alt… H… O… A. This AutoFits the row height so all your content becomes fully visible.
If you still notice that some text is not fully showing, especially in long addresses, that’s because wrap text is not enabled yet.
So now, keep the sheet selected, go to the Home tab, and click on Wrap Text. Once you do that, repeat the row shortcut again, Alt… H… O… A. Now watch the difference. Every row adjusts properly, and all content is clearly visible.
Let’s move to second method which is more quick and fast.
Move your cursor to the top left corner of the sheet, where rows and columns meet. Click that small triangle. This selects the entire sheet. Now again, go to any column boundary, place your cursor there, and double-click. Watch this. All columns adjust automatically in one go. No manual effort, no guessing.
Now let’s talk about rows, because sometimes text doesn’t fully show even after fixing columns, especially when you have long addresses or wrapped text.
Select the entire sheet again. Now go to any row boundary, for example between row 2 and 3. When the cursor becomes a double arrow, double-click. Excel will automatically adjust row height so all content becomes visible. This is AutoFit row height.
Now let’s go one step further for better control. Instead of using the mouse, you can also go to the Home tab, then click on Format, and choose AutoFit Column Width or AutoFit Row Height. This is useful when you want to apply it more precisely.
