Interpeduncular means in between peduncles. Cerebral peduncles are each half of the midbrain excluding the tectum.
The interpeduncular fossa is a rhomboid space located at the base of the brain in between the crus cerebri of the midbrain, the only part of midbrain seen on the ventral surface of the brain. It is surrounded by
Boundaries
 On each side- Crus cerebri of the midbrain
 Anteriorly- Optic tracts and optic chiasma
 Posteriorly- Superior surface of the pons
Contents
 Ventral hypothalamus includes the following structures-
• A pair of mamillary bodies
• Tuber cinereum is the raised part of gray matter which continues as the stalk/infundibulum of pituitary gland.
• Infundibulum or stalk of pituitary gland
 Posterior perforated substance- a layer of gray matter pierced by central branches of posterior cerebral arteries
 Oculomotor nerve arising from mid brain.
