From traditional craft to modern art, hand embroidery has been making its rounds in social media. Give your plain t-shirt or tote-bag a pop of colour by embroidering simple floral designs using basic stitches highlighted in this tutorial.

Materials needed:
Embroidery hoop
Non-stretchy fabric
Scissors
Embroidery floss in two colours
Embroidery Needle
Marker/pencil
20-cent coin (for tracing)

About the artist: Zoey is an Embroidery Artist residing in Singapore. Upon graduating from LASALLE Collage of the Arts, Masters of Art in Fine Arts, she started embroidering full time and has not looked back since. Formerly an illustrator trained in web design and Communication Design (Glasgow School of Arts, SIT), the creation of her work centres on the elements of impermanence and temporality. Using illustrative embroidery as a medium, she uses different techniques to capture and preserve a moment, constructed or candid. Combining both illustration and embroidery, Zoey dabbles with multiple mediums with the goal of invoking questions of perspective. She has also been teaching embroidery and craft workshops for the last three years while taking on commissioned works on a daily basis.
