Alberto Bimboni (1883-1960) is not much remembered today. Born in Italy, he came to the United States around the turn of the century, and became interested in Indian American subjects. His opera Winona was first performed in Portland, Oregon in 1926, but had very little further success. He also composed songs, which were not really of their time, but rather borrowed from the style of earlier centuries, particularly the 18th century. McCormack recorded the simple, tuneful and sentimental "Sospiri miei..." in 1913. It is now perhaps something of a collector's item, virtually unknown outside the McCormack recording.
