There's no place like home = Home is the most satisfying place to be; one's home is the happiest and most comfortable place to be in the world; made popular by the 1939 film, 'The Wizard of Oz,' spoken by Judy Garland's character, Dorothy.
drop by (somewhere) = To come to see someone, sometimes at a stated place, usually briefly and without a specific invitation; visit someone briefly.
think to (oneself) = To make a statement to oneself in one's mind, without saying it out loud; to have an inner monologue. (monologue = A monologue is a long speech by a single character in a theater production or film.)
wake up = To awaken from sleep; become awake.
When Dorothy's Uncle Henry says that they were worried that Dorothy was going to leave them, he meant that they were worried she would die.
The man who was the Wizard in Dorothy's dream visits and was almost going to say that he heard Dorothy got caught in the big storm before he noticed Dorothy was okay. When someone gets or is caught in a storm, that person is outside when a storm begins.
