Sculpture by artist Paul Cocksedge
Coalescence by Paul Cocksedge Studio in partnership with Carpenters Workshop Gallery is a new sculpture made using thousands of pieces of suspended coal. The artwork, which is currently on display until the 12th of March 2023 at the Liverpool Cathedral, questions our relationship with, and dependence on, fossil fuels.
A 200W light bulb turned on for a year would consume over half a tonne of coal. Coalescence visualises this exact amount, using 16 kilometres of wire to suspend 2,000 pieces of hand-drilled anthracite, in an artwork that spans 6 metres in diameter.
