PUR and nails: simple pen case.
One router bit for cutting all the necessary recesses.
In fact, I made six cases at once. I planed, sawed, and thicknessed long blanks measuring 40x15 mm. For the side pieces, I made 10 mm-thick blanks, which I sawed to 42x36 mm, and rounded the top on the sanding table on my lathe.
I finished the long blanks with a 19 mm diameter fillet bit.
The result was a kind of "baseboard": the back part has a 3 mm recess, meaning the remaining thickness of the blank is 12 mm. In the middle part, I deepened it by 6 mm in two passes. This created a 12 mm recess in the case, which is quite enough for my pens. I removed the front chamfer by eye.
I didn't quite follow the routing rules – the bit was chasing the material rather than cutting toward it. But in this case, it was more convenient for me. Besides, the parts are small, and the removal is also minimal—everything came out cleanly.
Then I cut the "baseboards" to the final size for the top and bottom parts of the case.
I assembled everything with PUR glue and nails.
I applied two coats of oil-wax, making sure to remove any excess oil and let it dry for 24 hours between coats.
