Isn’t our world a beautiful place? Well, it can also be a dangerous one. Especially if you’re in a high position of power. Just like any other human, presidents and other important leaders are at risk of losing their lives due to accidents, forces of nature, or deadly events. But what makes them different from ordinary citizens is that their security is at a whole different level. However, some presidents and other heads of state are more powerful than others, and of course, that also means they are more protected than the rest. In today’s video, we’ll be looking at “15 of the most protected presidents in the Word.” We’ll look at the lives of these powerful people and see how and why they’re so protected. Benjamin Netanyahu
A lot is going on in the Middle East. And we can only hope that things get better for everyone over there. And one of the leaders in that part of the world is Benjamin Netanyahu. He is the Prime Minister of Israel and he’s the longest-serving leader in that country. Over the years, there have been many attempts to unseat him. For that reason, he has a lot of security. There is a governing coalition that claims to have put an end to Netanyahu’s 12 years of power.
Emmerson Mnangagwa
The efforts to unseat a president or any other type of political leader happen everywhere. One of the countries that has seen this is Zimbabwe, where people have been trying to unseat President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The lawyers for Human Rights have witnessed a lot of people getting detained while holding anti-government demonstrations. But President Mnangagwa says they’re just bad apples and his team of security and his other allies will not let them get away with what they want. Obviously, there are two sides to every story and while the President is defending himself against some “renegades” (as he calls them) - the people who oppose him say that he’s been violating Human Rights and it’s time to get a new leader. That is why he needs a lot of protection. Only time will tell what the end of this conflict will be, but I just hope everything gets better for everyone living in Zimbabwe.
Narendra Modi
In India, great power comes…with a lot of perks! Yes. And one of them is the privilege of being protected by the SPG - the Special Protection Group. Surely, being the Prime Minister of India carries a lot of responsibility. Especially since India is one of the most populated countries in the world. But anyone who gets to be the Prime Minister of this country gets a special operations force that provides immediate security to their national leader as well as to any other member of their immediate family. And that is not limited to India. They can get this special force to protect them anywhere around the world. This force was started in 1988 and the most recent Prime Minister to benefit from it is Narendra Modi, who’s been in power since 2014.
Emmanuel Macron
As the president of France, Emmanuel Macron gets to be protected by the Security Group for the Presidency of the Republic. This security force is composed of 30 members of the armed forces, and 30 members of the national police force. And they’re equipped with an extensive fleet of weapons. Something interesting about them is that a couple of years ago when Nicolas Sarkozy was president, the unit had around 90 members of the national police force because there were higher threat levels. But he also didn’t believe that it was necessary to have the armed forces protecting him. However, in 2012, when Francois Hollande won the election, the force went back to being made out of 60 members.
Paul Biya
Paul Biya is the longest-running president of Cameroon. And just like many presidents who’ve been in power for too long, Biya has been the victim of many coup attempts. Two of the most outstanding ones were in 1983 and 1984. The coups were not successful but were more than enough to make the president increase his security. Former president Ahidjo was blamed as the one who caused these coups and as a result, they sentenced him to death in a military tribunal. The punishment was never carried out, but the sentence was a strong warning against anyone who dares to attempt to overthrow Biya from his position as the president of this African nation.
