Lake Thetis & The Stromatolites
Stromatolites. These strange organisms are found living in only a few places in the world.
The little known Lake Thetis, near the small West Australian town of Cervantes, is one such place where you can get up close and personal with these organisms.
Essentially types of bacteria, fused together with a strange glue like substance, grow in layers or slabs.
And actually very slow growing. About 1m every 2000 years!
The Stromtolites at Lake Thetis are easily accessable by a boardwalk around the lake which is just a few minutes from town.
