Are you planning to study in Germany in 2027?
The Summer 2027 intake is approaching, and some German universities and programs are already publishing their application timelines. This intake can be an important opportunity for students who missed the winter intake or do not want to wait another full year.
In Germany, the summer semester generally begins around March or April. At many universities, applications commonly open between October and December, with January 15 being a frequent deadline. However, every university and program can set its own application period.
In this video, I explain:
✅ What the Summer 2027 intake in Germany means
✅ When Summer 2027 applications usually open
✅ Common university application deadlines
✅ Why students should start preparing now
✅ Summer intake versus winter intake
✅ Who should consider applying for summer
✅ Availability of Bachelor’s and Master’s programs
✅ English-taught programs for international students
✅ Public universities accepting summer applications
✅ Direct university applications versus uni-assist
✅ How the VPD process works
✅ APS requirements for relevant applicants
✅ Academic and language requirements
✅ Documents required for admission
✅ Blocked account and financial preparation
✅ Germany student visa preparation
✅ Common mistakes that can delay an application
Why is the Summer 2027 intake important?
Germany’s winter intake usually offers the largest number of programs, but that does not mean students should ignore the summer intake.
The summer intake can be valuable because:
• You may not need to wait until the next winter semester
• Some programs may receive fewer applications
• It provides another opportunity after a winter-intake rejection
• It can help students begin their studies several months earlier
• Some Master’s and technical programs accept new students in summer
• It gives students another admission route into German public universities
However, fewer degree programs are normally available during the summer semester, particularly at the Bachelor’s level. Students must therefore check whether their selected course accepts first-semester applications for Summer 2027.
At many German universities, the common deadline for summer applications is January 15. Some universities close earlier, while others may continue accepting applications beyond January. International students may also have an earlier deadline than German or EU applicants.
Do not wait for the final deadline.
If your application is processed through uni-assist, submit it early enough for document evaluation. Students requiring a VPD should also remember that its processing can take several weeks.
Start preparing:
• Passport
• Academic degrees and transcripts
• Language certificate
• APS certificate where applicable
• CV and motivation letter
• Course-specific documents
• Certified translations
• Recommendation letters where required
• Financial documents for the visa process
The Summer 2027 intake may have fewer options, but it can still be an excellent opportunity for students who choose universities strategically and prepare their applications early.
