Ancient Mastaba Discovered in Egypt 2024
According to the #inscriptions, this mastaba belonged to a man named "Sene-neb-af" and his wife Idut. Sene-neb-af held several #important positions in the royal palace, managing tenants, while Idut served as a priestess of the goddess Hathor and the "Lady of the #Sycamores."
What makes this #tomb truly remarkable are its wonderful inscriptions and scenery. The walls depict various scenes from ancient Egyptian life, including threshing grains, ships sailing on the Nile River, a bustling market, and sacrificial rituals. Such detailed representations are quite rare in the mastabas of #Dahshur, #making this find even more significant.
The mission, led by Dr. Stefan Seidelmayer, plans to continue excavating the site in hopes of #uncovering more secrets from this ancient cemetery. Cleaning and documentation of the #tomb and its inscriptions will also take place in the coming period.
The excavations at Dahshur have been ongoing since 1976, #initially focusing on the pyramids of King Sneferu from the Old Kingdom and King Amenemhat III from the Middle Kingdom. However, recent efforts have shifted towards exploring the tombs of prominent individuals, such as officials, priests, and administrators who lived during those ancient times.
This remarkable discovery offers us a glimpse into the lives and beliefs of ancient Egyptians during the Old Kingdom era. The intricate inscriptions and scenes depicted in this mastaba provide invaluable insights into their daily activities, religious practices, and social structures.
