You've conquered the canals. Now you must locate the hidden entrance to Black Mesa East, which is a major resistance center, a test chamber for teleport technology, and the laboratory of Doctor Eli Vance. You'll meet Doctor Mossman and finally Eli himself; he's lost a little weight (and an appendage) since the Black Mesa Incident.
After gaining further knowledge from the good doctors, your return to lab-coated experiments is cut short when Alyx offers to train you in the arts of Doctor Vance's latest creation: the Gravity Gun! You're joined by the cute-yet-fearsome Dog, Alyx's pet robot, for a spot of catch before the Combine sweeps through the facility and you flee for your life. The way to the doctor is blocked, and the only alternate route to the coast, and safety, is through an old abandoned mining town.
Black Mesa East is the fifth chapter in Half-Life 2.
This chapter sees Gordon reaching his destination, Black Mesa East, after a series of chases through the canals. Like "A Red Letter Day," this chapter is full of insight and dialogue about the current state of the world, the people in it, and the aftermath of the Black Mesa Incident.
