The flag of Iran, often referred to as the "Tricolor" or "The Three-Colored Flag," consists of three horizontal stripes of equal width. From top to bottom, the colors are green, white, and red. Each of these colors holds symbolic significance:
1. Green: Historically represents growth, happiness, unity, and the Persian language.
2. White: Symbolizes freedom, honesty, peace, and purity.
3. Red: Represents bravery, courage, martyrdom, and the bloodshed for Iran.
At the center of the flag, within the white stripe, is the national emblem of Iran. This emblem consists of a stylized depiction of the word "Allah" (God) in Arabic script, along with a sword and a lion holding a sword. The emblem symbolizes the principles of Islam, strength, and the nation's sovereignty.
The current design of the Iranian flag was officially adopted on July 29, 1980, after the Iranian Revolution. It replaced the previous flag used during the Pahlavi dynasty, which featured a lion holding a sword against a sunburst background.
It's worth noting that the Iranian flag has undergone various modifications throughout its history, reflecting changes in regime and ideology.
