this video was two years in the making
why this video?
in the landscape of oversaturated 'content', accepting that the consistent feeding of the machine is inevitably unsustainable in every way took me this long to not just accept but articulate in a coherent way

ultimately, my WHY? for asienne is that: i believe that representation allows the one represented/reflected onscreen to imagine and visualize - and also attain - a possible future if they see someone who looks like them already achieve that said future; because if not, then, you get someone like me🤠🎉

this is NOT a pity party at all. but my own reflections - do YOU KNOW and CAN you name a LEADING Filipino American woman/character on a MAINSTREAM MOVIE and TV SHOW right now? I'm talking fiction. I'm talking LEAD CHARACTER. Not the best friend who's onscreen for 5 minutes, not the girlfriend who's solely there for eye candy, Not the housekeeper, nurse or the doctor who has 3 lines and no storyline with substance

You have five seconds. Go.

I can't think of anyone either
(don't say an independent movie)

Exactly.

NOTE: i love independent films. and those characters mentioned above are all very important too. they have important stories to tell. BUT holy eff. it's 2024 and we still don't have a LEADING mainstream filipino american woman character headlining her own tv and movies in the States

I am beyond tired
i have to cackle or else i'll cry ✋
