For an HP #OfficeJet 6301 #printer cartridge #error, if your standard (or high capacity), #refilled or aftermarket #HP62 series ink cartridge is displaying an error message such as: ' #Protected #Cartridge #Installed ' or ‘the #indicated cartridge can only be used in the #printer that initially used it and must be replaced’, etc., then the HP ink cartridge has been permanently #disabled for use in all printers, except for the original printer that it was first installed into….which unfortunately could be located anywhere in the world at this point.

Always ensure the ‘Cartridge Protection’ feature is turned OFF or DISABLED on your HP printer.

You will need to disable this setting on your #HP #OfficeJet #inkjet printer to avoid future #HP62 #ink #cartridges #lockout; the easiest method to #disable cartridge #protection is to #restore the printer to it’s #Factory #Default #Settings which can be achieved via the printer’s control panel display buttons (or via printer #driver #software menu).

Depending on your exact #HP #printer model version, the following steps may vary slightly but will generally be similar.

1) On the printer’s control panel display (or printer driver software on computer) either select Setup – Tools, or Setup – Printer Maintenance.

2) Scroll down to select Restore Factory Defaults.

3) Once selected the Restore Factory Defaults window will prompt a warning. Click Yes or Continue to proceed with Restore Factory Defaults.

4) After clicking Yes or Continue the printer will proceed to restore factory defaults and restart automatically.

5) The ‘Protected Cartridge’ feature is now disabled. Unfortunately, if you currently have a ‘protected’ ink cartridge installed it will need to be disposed of and replaced with a new cartridge. For 2 cartridge-based printer models you will need to replace both ink cartridges as it is very likely both cartridges have been infected and permanently disabled by the printer’s software.

Moving forward any new HP 62 or HP 62XL ink cartridge installed into your printer will not be protected and may be #reused or #recycled for future use later.

NOTE 1: You may also disable cartridge protection if internet or web-based printer software was installed with the printer.

NOTE 2: Leaving the printer sit overnight with a recently protected / locked-out cartridge will infect the other ink cartridge while the printer is in the idle state. This can occur in less than 1 hour.

For printers that display ink or printer system error messages such as “ #incompatible cartridge”, “cartridge #problem” or “ #Ink #System #Failure” then it is possible that a newer version of HP printer #firmware may have been installed onto your printer and the cartridge #chip or #chips are now #locked out, or there is not enough ink inside the cartridge to support print operations.
