Masabi Barcode Scanning - as fast as Oyster even with old phones
Mobile Tickets, shown as on-screen barcodes, can now be scanned as fast as Oyster smartcards or NFC!
This demonstration shows a new gate scanner performing scanning, decrypting, decoding and verifying the Masabi Secure Barcode Train Tickets, while displayed on a variety of phones, in an average of just 240ms from first contact to gate-release (the usual speed for Oyster smart-card).
The users can now get through a gate without breaking their stride, thanks to the new speed and maturity of scanning technology, making barcode ready for mass-transit and high volume applications.
Phones used are not just recent smart phones but also legacy phones including an ancient 6 year old nokia 3100, touch screen phones, mirror screen phones, iPhone, iTouch, blackberries, flip-phones, from Motorola, Samsung, Nokia, Apple, Rim and LG.
The innovations here are alterations in barcode data encoding, full-screen rendering of the barcodes, and tweaks to the scanner to ensure fastest response times, as required by modern gate-lines.
The scanner is not a prototpe, and is fully industrially tested including hammer tests and water immersion and is rugged enough for public gate duties.
Future uses for these scanners include Railway stations, Music Venues, Football Stadiums and more.
