Today we're going to tell you the story of the Spotify founder Daniel Ek.

At the start of the dot-com bubble, commercial webpages sold for up to $50,000. However, 14-year-old Daniel Ek was building and trading them for just $5,000.

In 2006, Tradedoubler bought one of his projects, an advertisement service called Advertigo, for $1 million. Then he sold more patents for an additional $1 million and at 23 years old, Ek was a self-made millionaire.

In this video you will find out how Daniel met Martin Lorentzon and how they chose to disrupt the music business.

It was a bumpy road ahead of them. People doubted the profitability of Spotify, and labels wanted nothing to do with it. Similar startups were using pirated music to catalyze their growth, but Ek was stubborn about obtaining legal licenses. As they kept getting cold shoulders, he uploaded pirated music to Spotify and showed demos to music executives.

Eventually, in 2008, Spotify launched at home in Scandinavia, France, Spain, and the UK.
