Welcome back to Setting up Instagram for Business. In this video we will go over switching a personal profile, which is the default, to a Business Profile. Let’s get started and head over to our profile. The account we’ll be using today has been live and active for several months now and has an alright amount of posts and followers. There’s no need to wait on making the switch to business, but this particular company wanted to populate their profile first.
To start, tap on the gear icon on the top right corner to see Options. Here you will find your Account settings, amongst other profile and invite settings. We’re looking for the Switch to Business Profile option, which will take you to a Business Tools setup. Click the blue Continue button to go through these information slides on the benefits of these tools, such as Follower insights, customer reach and contact options. The last slide will open up a new window and redirect you to log in with Facebook to connect your Instagram with the appropriate Facebook business page. If you don’t have one, you can create one. Facebook is part of Instagram, so in order to switch to Business on Instagram, you will need to have a Facebook page to link to.
Once you select the right Facebook page, tap Next to verify imported information. Tap Done if everything looks correct and welcome to your new business profile. As you will notice, a couple of things have changed on the profile and Instagram does a good job at pointing out and guiding you through the switch. Most visibly on the admin side is the Insights icon at the top, next to the gear icon. This new tool will show you analytics on your posts, followers, profile, and promotions, starting from the day you made the switch to Business, which is why it looks empty now.
You will start seeing some activity in your Insights as early as a couple weeks, and the more time you spend engaging with your audience, posting and running promotions, the more and more numbers you will see. So make sure to keep tabs on any upward or downward trends.
Watch Part 3 of this series where we go more indepth into creating and managing Promotions.
