Welcome. This training video will show you how to create a project and add drawing files in eTakeoff.
First, you must acquire the drawing files for the project you want to create. eTakeoff supports all the major online plan rooms in the country. You can also use files from any online plan room as well as files that you get from websites, FTP sites, or CDs. eTakeoff supports all the standard drawing file formats including PDF and TIFF.
You can save your files anywhere you like; on the desktop, in the documents folder, or even on a server if your office has a network. Save the drawing files in a separate folder for each project. eTakeoff creates a folder for you on the desktop when you install the program; it is the eTakeoff project folder. You can use that if you would like. Once you have your drawing files saved in a project folder, you can create a project.
To create a project, click the new button in the project group on the home tab. Creating a project is a three-step process.
1. The first step is selecting the folder where your project files are. Scroll this window to the folder location for the project you are creating. Select the project folder by clicking your left mouse button once; that will highlight the folder like this. Then select the ok button to finish step one.
2. Step two is the project properties window. Here, you’ll want to verify your project description. The description shows in the project list. Notice that we copy your project folder name and use it as the default project description. You can click in the description field and change it if need be. You can add any of the other information you want, like customer, location, bid date, so on, and when you are satisfied with that information, you can click ok and go to step three.
3. In the final step, you will need to identify all the files that you want to add to this project. Make sure that those files have a check in front of them. Uncheck any files that you do not want to add to the project. You can also check and uncheck an entire folder of files by clicking directly on the folder itself. When you are ready, click add button to create your project.
