Do you need to machine polish when applying PPF?
Does PPF cover swirls marks?
In the Quick video, you can see the truth of what paint protection film can do. And yes, I applied the scrap film very quickly which is why there is a small bubbles, because I did not do proper panel prep and car was dusty from polishing.
PPF also covers sanding marks!
As I mentioned in the video, there may be some cases where Polishing is required before application, for bug or bird etchings or very heavy scratches- but in many cases for regular wash swirls, it is not necessary to polish area where film is being installed, and indeed is a waste of time anyway because, final step before application of fi is claying, which causes marring in the paint, and the PPF covers this entirely.
Plus when film is removed, removal of glue and residue can cause swirls etc... Also, polishing has further risk of introducing dust (as in my test example here). So you should ask questions if you are being advised and charged many hundreds or even into the thousands of $, € or £ for potentially a pointless service.
This obviously doesn't count to paint correction and polishing on areas of the car that are not being covered in PPF ...those will need polishing of course for the best finish 😎
