Hello everyone! My name is Grigory Gorchakov, and today we've come to Suzdal as part of the "Places of Power in Russia" project.
Arriving in Suzdal, we're immersed in a magical fairy tale and are captivated by the soul of this ancient Russian city, its unique atmosphere and charm. The city has retained its architectural appearance unchanged since the 18th century. There are no industrial enterprises, major highways, or high-rise buildings here. Buildings taller than three stories are prohibited. Suzdal, lined with numerous ancient churches, cathedrals, wooden huts, and stone manors, seems to transport us back to the days of Ancient Rus'.
In 2024, Suzdal will celebrate its 1,000th anniversary. It is unique in that it is the only city in Russia with the status of a museum city. With a population of just under 10,000 and an area of just 15 square kilometers, Suzdal has about 50 churches.
The Suzdal Kremlin, the Spaso-Evfimiev Monastery, the Museum of Wooden Architecture, and the Church of Sts. Boris and Gleb in Kideksha are under the jurisdiction of the Vladimir-Suzdal State Museum-Reserve. This is one of the largest museum complexes in the country, containing 64 architectural monuments, seven of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
