Today we're going to take a look at conjunctions. What is a conjunction? a conjunction is a word that connects two parts of a sentence or phrase. There are a lot of these in English, and it's helpful to break them down into three types. So we've put them under the headings of coordinating conjunctions, correlative conjunctions, and subordinating conjunctions. These are long words, but a coordinating conjunction is just a conjunction that connects two equally important parts of a sentence. A correlative conjunction is one of a pair of words that do this. A subordinating conjunction introduces a clause that is less important than the main part of the sentence.
Moreover, in this video we have conjunctive adverbs. Conjunctive adverbs are transition words or phrases. Conjunctive adverbs are also called connective adverbs or linking adverbs. Some examples of conjunctive adverbs are: accordingly, also, besides, consequently, finally, however, indeed, instead, likewise, meanwhile, moreover, nevertheless, next, otherwise, still, therefore, then. They indicate a connection between two independent clauses in one sentence. Link the ideas in two or more sentences. show relationships between ideas within an independent clause.
