Routes of Power. How the Turkic Bloc is Shifting the Balance Around China

China, the United States, and the Battle for Influence

Swing states are countries that are not superpowers but are capable of influencing the global balance of power. This is the term increasingly used today to describe the countries of the Turkic world and Eurasia—from Azerbaijan and Turkey to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

Eurasia is gradually becoming the main arena for global competition, and logistics is becoming a new tool of geopolitical influence.
In this interview with Ken Moriyasu, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute specializing in Greater Asia, we discuss why China is trying to move away from its dependence on maritime routes, how the importance of the South Caucasus and Central Asia is changing, and why the Organization of Turkic States is beginning to be perceived as a potential center of power.
