Tragedy.
On January 19, 1944, New Peterhof was liberated. Soon, front-line correspondents, writers, and museum workers were able to visit. They witnessed the horrific destruction of the palace and park complex. Despite the general desolation, within a few months, demining and clearing the palaces and parks began in Peterhof.
