It won't be for the US when it comes in production form, but it's definitely quite the eye catcher. The Aygo X Prologue sports a tiny footprint, but manages to look big and tall at the same time, thanks to the super flared wheel wells with their contrasting color accent. It really draws your eye to the curves, especially from the front three-quarter view. Designers included a pretty dramatic sweep and cut from the side profile into the rear to further accentuate the Aygo X Prologue's big hips. Frankly, it looks to me like a personal mobility concept more than anything.
The Aygo X remains below the European-spec Toyota Yaris with which it shares its GA-B platform, in terms of footprint: it's 3,700mm long and has a 2,430mm wheelbase. At 1,500mm tall, however, it's about the same height as its sibling. For reference, the current Aygo is 3,465mm long, 1,460mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,340mm.
Toyota previously confirmed that the production version of the Aygo X will exclusively use internal combustion engines. Specifications remain unconfirmed, but the European-spec Yaris's entry-level 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine is a likely candidate, and the Aygo X will likely be available with either a five-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox.
Arranged on the same recently developed GA-B platform that the brand was reserved until now for the Toyota Yaris and Yaris Cross , the new Toyota Aygo X arrives ready to conquer European customers, its target par excellence.
Its two-color bodywork or the wedge-shaped roof, is very reminiscent of the last Yaris while the bulging bumpers, the raised suspension and especially the wide and marked wheel arches, resemble its older brother, the Yaris Cross.
The front is completely new and includes a most exclusive LED lighting signature, which joins the two headlights covering a whole front grille faired in its upper part. On the other hand, the bumpers show off wide gills on the side and house a large grille in the center, with two discreet circular fog lamps located one on each side.
The design exercise carried out by Toyota on its smallest model is such that the Aygo X Prologue includes five doors with integrated touch handles, chrome roof rails and oversized copper-colored wheels. Many of these aesthetic elements are expected to reach the final model, although Toyota has not yet revealed any information about it.
Designed by and to be a preview of the aesthetics of Toyota's future city car, the Toyota Aygo X Prologue has not added light on the mechanics that will equip the series model. Recall that although the current Yaris was presented as a hybrid, it will soon receive a more basic variant with a single gasoline engine and its little brother - although converted into an SUV - is expected to do the same.
