The Red Sea is warmer and saltier than the rest of the ocean, and because of that, the corals that live here are more resilient to climate change than other corals.
Scientists at the University of Jordan believe these species could hold the key to novel medical treatments. Some of the same molecules that help protect these corals in their harsh environment could one day help protect humans from cancer cells.
In May of 2022 OceanX partnered with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) on a research mission to explore Jordan's territorial waters in the Gulf of Aqaba. Over 45 researchers from 9 universities participated in the multi-disciplinary expedition in July of 2022.
