Dark Souls II is an open-world action/RPG video game developed and published by From Software for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows in 2014. Bandai Namco published the game outside Japan. The game is a sequel to Dark Souls (2011).
According to the game's plot, the unnamed protagonist visits the kingdom of Drangleic in hopes of being cured of the curse that has turned him into an undead. To do so, he must acquire several "great souls" belonging to the demonic inhabitants of Drangleic. Like previous games in the series, Dark Souls II features a high level of difficulty—the player is expected to repeatedly fail against powerful enemies and learn from their mistakes to progress. Dark Souls II features multiplayer elements in the form of both cooperative and PvP—during the game, players can "summon" other players into their game as supporters or face off against other, hostile players.
The game was announced at the Spike Video Game Awards in December 2012. Unlike Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki, who previously worked on the series as development director and producer, was not directly involved in the game's development.
