Heavy cruisers, or as they were called in Germany, battleships, of the Deutschland type, were the first capital modern ships built by Germany after World War I. Under the restrictions of the Versailles Peace Treaty, conscious sacrifices had to be made, and as a result, a ship with an unprecedented combination of characteristics was born.
