RENDER READY IN 30 MINUTES!
3Dmodels.org is my preferred supplier for detailed vehicle models. This is my workflow for optimizing, texturing and rendering 3Dm models.
Part 1: Starting with a car from 3dmodels.org, we open it in Autodesk 3ds Max, optimize the geometry and separate parts by material. We unwrap UVWs using Unwrella and export to FBX.
Part 2: In Adobe Substance Painter, we create the file bake mesh maps, setup shaders, create Smart Materials and apply them. We export using an optimized preset.
Part 3: Using a script, we import materials directly to 3ds Max VRay. Using an XRef scene for lighting an environment, we render to the Frame Buffer. Working between Painter and Max we perfect materials for a photo-real result.
