Artbook “Sumi” [Art of Vagabond] (Inoue Takehiko)

En esta ocasión os muestro el recién llegado libro de arte “SUMI”, del maestro Inoue Takehiko, que vuelve a ver la luz casi dos décadas después de su primera edición, publicada en 2006.
Esta obra, junto a su libro complementario “WATER” (que compartiré próximamente), reúne una impresionante colección de ilustraciones relacionadas con el célebre manga de Inoue “Vagabond”, inspiradas en la vida del samurái Miyamoto Musashi.
A través del trazo expresivo de la tinta (de ahí el nombre del libro, pues “sumi” es “tinta” en japonés), Inoue explora la fuerza, la calma y la fugacidad del movimiento, llevando el arte del manga a una dimensión pictórica.
La reimpresión de estos libros de arte de “Vagabond” ha sido otra de las grandes alegrías este año junto a la nueva edición del libro “The Artwork of Berserk” ( • Artbook “The Artwork Of Berserk” (Kentaro ... . Ya que me ha permitido incluir estas maravillosas obras a la colección sin tener que pagar las desmedidas cantidades de dinero que se pedían en el mercado de segunda mano.
En mi caso, además, llegué tarde a la ventana de pre-orders, pero me pude aprovechar de que la genial librería madrileña “Aprende Japonés Hoy” había pedido varios números:

This time I’m showing you the newly arrived art book “SUMI” by master Takehiko Inoue, which has finally come back to light almost two decades after its first edition, originally published in 2006.
Together with its companion volume “WATER” (which I’ll share soon), this book brings together an impressive collection of illustrations related to the celebrated Inoue’s manga “Vagabond”, inspired by the life of the samurai Miyamoto Musashi.
Through the expressive power of ink strokes (hence the title, since “sumi” means “ink” in Japanese), Inoue explores strength, serenity, and the fleeting nature of movement — elevating manga art to a painterly dimension.
The reprint of these “Vagabond” art books has been one of this year’s great joys, along with the new edition of The Artwork of Berserk ( • Artbook “The Artwork Of Berserk” (Kentaro ... . It’s been wonderful to finally add these beautiful works to my collection without having to pay the outrageous prices they were reaching on the second-hand market.
In my case, I actually missed the pre-order window, but I was lucky enough to get a copy thanks to the amazing Madrid-based bookstore “Aprende Japonés Hoy”, which had ordered several copies:
