In the second half of my first day exploring Nepal, I delved into the rich history and cultural marvels of Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, situated in the heart of Kathmandu, stands as a testament to the country's glorious past.
Hanuman Dhoka, meaning "Hanuman's Door," serves as the main entrance to the ancient royal palace complex. As I wandered through the square, the intricate architecture of historic palaces, courtyards, and temples unfolded before me. The Durbar Square is not just a physical space; it's a living museum, encapsulating centuries of Nepali history and tradition.

One of the highlights of my visit was exploring the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, which dates back to the Malla period and served as the royal residence until the mid-19th century. The elaborately carved wooden windows and doors, along with the intricately designed courtyards, provided a captivating glimpse into the opulence of the past.
The Kumari Ghar, or Kumari's residence, was another captivating stop. This unique structure is home to the Kumari, a young living goddess chosen from the Newar community. Witnessing the Kumari at her window was a surreal experience, connecting me with the living traditions embedded in the heart of Nepal.
As the sun set over Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Square, I couldn't help but feel immersed in the vibrant history and culture that permeates every corner. This second half of my day was a journey through time, offering a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Nepal's heritage.
