How To Use A 5-in-1 Reflector Disc | Tutorial
Here is my tutorial on how to use a 5-in-1 reflector disc that many photographers and videographers have! These often come in bundles with a camera or tripod, but they come with no instructions so I'm going to show you how to use them in this video.
1. The White Side.
This side is used to add more light to the scene by bouncing the key light back onto the subject. This is useful for people because the light won't be blinding, but can still help fill in light if needed.
2. The Black Side.
This side is used to reduce light to the scene by subtracting the light from bouncing onto the subject. This introduces more contrast in the image. Simply place it on the side you want more contrast and that side should darken. Alternatively you can use this a simple "flag" to actually cut and shape light on the scene
3. Diffusion Panel.
This is a transparent part of the disc that can be used to soften your key light. By placing this light on your source you create soft light. Soft light is a quality of light that is more wrapping, flattering, and creates less harsh shadows in the image. Use this on faces to help hide imperfections on the skin.
4. Silver Side.
This reflects the most light, and keeps it a solid white color. This is good if you want to achieve a 3 point lighting setup but only have one light. Use this to create a rim/edge light on your subject by bouncing the key light onto their back.
5. Golden Side.
Identical to the silver side, just with a golden hue. This is more creative in that you change the light color to something more orange/gold. Good for edge lighting or adding a more sunset vibe/color to your scene.
