Clutch failure: how to drive it home
My clutch broke, how do I get to a service center? I assumed all drivers knew this. After talking to the owner of the service center I initially stopped at, I realized that not everyone does. Let's start with the theory:
At the same vehicle speed, in different gears, the engine will run at different RPMs. Knowing how to shift into gear and which RPMs correspond to which gear will allow you to easily get to the service center, shifting gears without the clutch. This happens if the release bearing has cracked, or the clutch has become very loose.
If it's slipping, simply prevent the engine from developing too much power.
