A classic gin number that divides purists and perfectionists alike, the original Gimlet is a sturdy and stubborn drink that originated during the height of power of the British Royal Navy, peaked in popularity in the 1950s and then slid into obscurity in the decades preceding.

Traditionally made with Rose's Lime Cordial, and artificially flavored and heavily sweetened non-alcoholic cordial, the Gimlet generally benefits from one of two different methods of preparation; either in the form of freshly squeezed lime juice and simple syrup - very much like a classic daiquiri but with gin in place of white rum - or with a homemade lime cordial, of which many recipes exist online.

GIMLET (FRESH)
• 2oz / 60ml Gin
• 1oz / 30ml Fresh Lime
• 0.75oz / 22.5ml Simple Syrup (1:1)

METHOD
• Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker
• Fill with ice
• Shake vigorously for about 7-9 seconds
• Strain into a chilled Coupe
• Garnish with a lime wedge (optional)
