Whether you underhook, pin the knee, clamp the thigh, backstep, go to 3/4 mount, heavy shoulder pressure, body lock, or etc etc etc One thing is clear in half guard, focus on flattening the hip.
You do this and you’re very likely to be winning the position. They’ll either stay allowing you to navigate the pass or they’ll have to defend and if they do, expect it and prepare for the new openings that come up.
